EDUCATION
- Upgrade infrastructure, quality of education in Government schools by enhancing training programmes for teachers and setting up libraries.
- Improve efficiency of the “Anganwadi” (Mid-day meals and schooling) model by addressing issues like management of food, attrition rate of children.
- Address all socio-economic issues for ensuring 100% implementation of Right To Education (RTE).
- Conduct counseling programmes and mentorship programmes for aspiring students.
- Strive to provide employable skills/qualification-based employment opportunities working with the Industry bodies.
GOVERNANCE
- Set up “Citizen Interaction Centers” to conduct regular forums for receiving suggestions and feedbacks on local area issues to prioritize spending of MLA-Local Area Development Scheme Fund of Rs 1.5 Crore/year.
- The MLA-LADS fund utilization statement under the various schemes/ development plans undertaken will be available to the people through various media.
- Will voice the views and opinions of the people from our Constituencies by attending all the assembly sessions and play a constructive role in debates on critical issues and formulation of policies and laws.
- Set up centers run by lawyers/ activists to facilitate access to information on issues like – Human/ child/ woman/ consumer rights and instruments like RTIs/ PILs.
- Reduce Child labour problem by working on the related issues.
EMPLOYMENT GENERATIO
- Conduct regular job fairs to provide employable opportunities for the unemployed and underemployed.
- Create opportunities for women to generate income through self-help groups.
- Work with industry bodies on skills development programmes for enhancing employment opportunities.
- Set-up centers that provide relevant information on various entrepreneurial opportunities across sectors and facilitate know-how on getting one’s business started.
- Aim to create 100 young entrepreneurs from the less-privileged sections of the society in Chennai by 2014.
INFRASTRUCTURE
- Facilitate mini-bus transport system to provide normal and disabled citizens easy access to bus depots, place of work, schools and MRTS stations in their neighborhood.
- Initiate Slum Redevelopment Programmes working with investors, realty firms and target population for access to affordable civic amenities and dwelling units.
- Create a workable model for collection of domestic waste; Revamp scheduling of sewage disposal, flood control measures in flood-prone zones.
- Explore avenues to convert open/waste-lands, lakes into recreational faciities, parks and parking facilities for better traffic management.
- Create a workable model for management of roads, provisioning and maintenance of storm water drains and side-walks for pedestrians.
- Prioritise water management system for long term sustainability
CLEAN, GREEN and CITIZEN-FRIENDLY CHENNAI
- Work towards ensuring safety and security of every citizen
- Work with relevant govt. bodies and private infrastructure players to ensure all public places are easily accessible to the disabled and senior citizens.
- Look at Public-Private Partnership models for provisioning of public toilets/ bathing spaces based on the needs of the local population.
- Initiate awareness and encourage tree cultivation among population to bring down the impact of pollution.
- Look at programmes/models to implement solar energy power systems, energy efficient buildings
The citizens can assess the Performance management for the above initiatives.
I and my team will create a Performance management system, to ensure that all the Govt. schemes funds made available to us and spent by us under the MLA-LADS, State and city development programmes, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) initiatives can be monitored by citizens committees for its effectiveness.
